Hi xHamster Fam! Choosing the right custom cover can make a huge difference in how many people notice your video. That’s why we’ve made cover selection smarter, so your videos are always shown with the cover that actually performs best.

What’s new?

Previously, custom covers and auto-generated covers were evaluated separately.

Now, all covers are tested together in one rotation, so your video always uses the best-performing option which gets the most views.

How it works:

All covers take part in a single rotation. The system tracks how each cover performs and gradually shows the best one more often.

• If an auto-generated cover gets more clicks than a custom one, it will be shown instead
• This works the same way whether you upload one custom cover, several, or none at all

You can always view detailed performance for each cover in your statistics and compare how custom and auto-generated options performed, so you can clearly see what worked best for your audience.

Behind the scenes, we optimize but the results are always visible to you.

Automatic rotation: how to enable it

On the upload page, you’ll see a checkbox called “Automatically select your best performing cover” and it’s turned on by default when you upload a video.

You’re always in control and can turn it off anytime

What if I don’t upload custom covers?

If no custom covers are uploaded, auto-generated covers are still tested against each other by default, and the best-performing one is automatically selected.

Should you turn it off?

In most cases, we recommend keeping this option on. Turning it off only makes sense if: you upload custom covers only, and if you want a single specific cover to always be shown
